ATTICA — Doris L. Shonkwiler Cooper, 71, 403 E. Pine St., Attica, died at 8:15 p.m. Aug. 28, 1999, in Home Hospital, Lafayette, where she had been hospitalized for two days. Born Aug. 21, 1928, in Attica, she was the daughter of Russell Glen and Elsie E. Crowder Shonkwiler. She married William Nelson Cooper Sept. 19, 1947, in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death Jan. 13, 1992. She graduated from Attica High School and was a life resident of Attica. She was a member of the Attica First Christian Church, the Women of the Moose of Attica and a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post 3318 of Attica. She was a sports fan and enjoyed watching Cubs baseball. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was formerly employed at Radio Material Corp. for 15 years, and later acted as a domestic care giver for Floyd and Eleanor Poston in Attica. Survivors include: daughters, Penny McClure, Lake Worth, Fla., Elsie (Arthur) Smith, Veedersburg; son, Richard Shonkwiler, Attica; sister, Anna May (John) Purple, Williamsport; brothers, Russell Shonkwiler Jr. and Billie Shonkwiler, both of Attica; John Myers, Fredricksburg, Va., six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Richard and John C. Shonkwiler. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Maus Funeral Home in Attica with Rev. Marcos Gilmore officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Lung Association. – jlr
